Over the following centuries, it welcomed immigrants worldwide, mainly Germans, Italians, Spaniards, Africans, Poles, and Lebanese,
including Catholics, Jews, Protestants, and Muslims. Porto Alegre is a busy hub of recognized quality services and infrastructure, home
to large national and international companies, and one of Brazil's foremost destinations for international events. The city is located
just 120 kilometers from the pleasant Serra Gaúcha.

The Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul is historically linked to the field of culture, developing recognized training,
creation, and dissemination work in this area. It maintains programs and actions in different lines of action, which are
pioneers in Brazil, fostering artistic-cultural production and expanding access to it for different audiences, internal and
external to the academic community. This trajectory is directly associated with the set of cultural facilities created and
maintained by UFRGS. In 2018, the university reaffirmed the importance of its activities in this area by opening a new
space: the UFRGS Cultural Center.
Located in a historic building on the central campus – the former Instituto de Química Industrial – entirely restored,
the Cultural Center has multiple environments, each one identified with the names of Brazilian trees, which constitute
the ideal infrastructure to house the pulsating culture at the university, always in relationship with the community.
Its management is under the responsibility of the Department of Cultural Diffusion (DDC) of the Dean of Extension at
UFRGS, and the cultural actions developed there – exhibitions, workshops, recitals, shows, debates – are already part
of the cultural life of Porto Alegre.
The Institute of Informatics (INF) at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) is an international-class center of
excellence in education, research, and innovation in Computer Science and Computer Engineering. Its faculty has 78 professors,
making it one of the largest groups in the country in Computer Science and Computer Engineering. Its essential characteristic
is strong interdisciplinarity between software-oriented research and hardware-oriented research.
The INF/UFRGS Graduate Program in Computing (PPGC) is one of the country's largest, oldest, and most comprehensive graduate
programs in the largest. Rated 7 by CAPES (on a scale that goes up to 7), the PPGC has the best rating in the South region
and is among the five best graduate programs in Computing in the country.
The Program offers training in Computing at the Master's and Doctoral levels in Computer Science, existing since 1973 and
1989. The Program's proposal is to offer training of excellence in the following lines of research: Architecture and Design
of Computational Systems, Bioinformatics, Microelectronics, Embedded, Testing and Reliability of Integrated Hardware and
Software Systems, Fundamentals of Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Graphics, Image Processing and Interaction,
Computer Networks, Fault Tolerance, Digital TV, Software Engineering. Conceptual Modeling and Database.
