Dr. Isidoro Gitler, a mathematician who leads the group of specialists at Cinvestav that promoted the creation of Abacus, points out that currently, on an international scale, “the challenge is not who builds the most powerful computer, but who makes a machine with limited and sustainable energy consumption. The supercomputers in countries like Japan or those in Europe, with great capacity, consume as much energy as a city, which restricts their growth. A larger one would require nuclear plants to operate.”
